Rows in the different areas of a process layout contain cells. These cells may be assigned data columns which are to be updated/appended. The above figure illustrates how an assignment is done.

Assigned cells have to be then sourced. The source may be a caluculation, or a total, or a data column. The figure below illustrates how the assigned cells are sourced.
